The ICPA Pediatric Certification Program represents the culmination of progressive training in perinatal and pediatric chiropractic care. It builds directly upon the clinical foundation established through Webster and Perinatal Certification, expanding that knowledge into comprehensive pediatric and family practice.

What this means for your patients: Families who trust you with their pregnancy care will have a chiropractor they can continue to rely on as their child grows, from the first adjustment after birth through every stage of development. That continuity of care is rare, and deeply valued by the families who seek it.

Pediatric Certification is a 200-hour program consisting of the 7 courses completed through Perinatal Certification plus 13 additional pediatric-focused courses. This structure allows you to move forward without duplication, applying prior coursework toward a unified certification focused on long-term family wellness.

Clinical Depth with a Salutogenic Perspective

ICPA Pediatric Certification is taught from a salutogenic perspective, one that emphasizes strategies, environments, and lifestyle choices that build adaptability, resilience, and health throughout development. Rather than focusing solely on the absence of symptoms, this approach equips you to actively support thriving at every stage of life.

Techniques are adapted from those currently taught at chiropractic colleges and applied across pregnancy, birth, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. The program expands your clinical confidence in pediatric adjusting techniques, developmentally appropriate evaluation and assessment, and care strategies aligned with each stage of growth.

Professional Recognition & Advancement

Upon completion, chiropractors earn the designation Pediatric Certified by the Academy Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics (CACCP) and are recognized accordingly within the ICPA community and referral directory.

For those called to further contribution, Pediatric Certification also establishes eligibility for Diplomate candidacy (DACCP) — a pathway focused on leadership, research, and service to the profession.

Advanced Perinatal Clinical Application

(12 Hours) Building on the Webster Technique Certification, this module emphasizes hands-on clinical skills for serving the pregnancy and postpartum populations. This course addresses perinatal chiropractic research, pelvic balancing techniques, outcome based exams, and tools for engaging both birth providers and mothers in your community.

Advanced Spinal Assessment and Adjusting for the Infant and Child

(12 Hours) This course teaches spinal analysis and full spine adjusting for the newborn, infant and toddler populations including visual analysis and case history techniques. Spinal analysis procedures including muscle and motion palpation as well as adjusting techniques adapted from the Gonstead, Diversified and Logan Basic models will be presented. Techniques using the child drop headpiece are included. Expect extensive hands-on application.

Breastfeeding and TOTs: Functional Support Through Chiropractic

(8 Hours) This 8-hour course is designed to explain the functional support provided through chiropractic care and its impact on the resolution of feeding dysfunction. This module will cover the specific anatomy associated with Tethered Oral Tissues, possible causes, specific technique, exam and management approaches. This course will bring clarity to the importance of chiropractic assessment and care for the newborn infant and the impact it can have on breastfeeding; thus allowing for greater education and shared dialogue with medical Lactation professionals and families.

Building the Chiropractic Family Practice

(12 Hours) Explore the multifaceted dynamics of chiropractic family wellness practice. The course will provide you with the tools and systems to create a successful practice congruent with the traditional values of chiropractic philosophy in a contemporary application of chiropractic technique. You will be empowered with a foundation in perinatal care, family care and pediatric care and challenged to develop mastery in every aspect of practice.

Clinical Certainty Through Functional Assessment

(12 Hours) This course will incorporate hands on and practical experience necessary to perform a thorough exam for an infant. We will cover the first encounter with the infant and parent(s), examination procedures and communication of the findings. We will discuss the importance of the primitive reflexes that are present initially from birth to one year, how they correlate to milestones, nervous system and brain development. Then, we will look at the examination for an older child with a neurodevelopmental delay. For the older child, we will look at what results when the primitive reflexes are retained, the necessity of chiropractic care to assist with their inhibition and how correcting subluxations helps to restore brain balance.

Connecting with Parents, the Baby, and Supportive Care Providers

(4 Hours) In this 4-hour online course: Learn how to make a powerful connection with moms (and dads) and children to build rapport, trust, and understanding. The skills of communication in both verbal and non-verbal ways allow us to connect on multiple levels. Develop an understanding of the physiological mechanism of adaptation in a salutogenic model.

Cranial Eval & Adjusting Protocols for the Infant and Child

(12 Hours) Expand your effectiveness and capabilities with your pediatric patients. In this hands-on workshop, you will explore the spinal and cranial adjusting techniques that can be implemented into your current practice paradigm. Examination, assessment and spinal and cranial adjusting for the child are taught using specialized meningeal and structural techniques founded on Sacro Occipital Technique principles.

Measure what Matters: Thermography, HRV, SEMG

(4 Hours) This 4-hour online course explores the clinical applications of technologies such as the CLA’s Insight Technology and Titronics Tytron Thermography in the analysis of subluxation patterns. Introducing the clinical application of instrument based physiologic measures for neurologic function utilizing heart rate variability, surface electromyography, and thermography for infants and children. Specifically, to create competency in using such an instrument for periodic outcome assessments, re-assessments, research opportunity, and patient education.

Neurodevelopmental Challenges: Brain Based Analysis and Adjusting

(12 Hours) Autism rates are now 1 in 36 kids in the US. ADHD affects more than 10% of US children. 1 in 6 kids born today will have a developmental disability. Pediatric chiropractors who see (or want to see more of) these special populations will greatly benefit from this innovative approach that combines a special blend of instrument and tonal chiropractic, functional neurology, and nutrition. This is a Monday-morning applicable seminar—you will come back to your offices with tools to use immediately that will make an impact. Bring your dolls. Expect lots of hands-on.

Perinatal Care with Webster Certification

(13 Hours) Take home the educational tools to successfully reach and care for more pregnant mothers and their babies in your practice. This 13-hour course will offer you the skills to provide advanced techniques and evidence-based care to the perinatal patient. The course includes an in-depth approach to a physiological birth and the chiropractic relationship. Note: ICPA membership is required for Webster seminar registration and certification.

Perinatal Health: Epigenetics and Parental Nutrition

(12 Hours) Gain an understanding of nutrition and learn how to effectively incorporate this information into your practice. Explore the relationships between epigenetics, nutrition, fertility and family health. Understand the latest findings in epigenetics and the roles of sugar and pH in health and disease. You'll learn how optimal nutrition can improve fertility, how poor nutrition can weaken fertility and the effects of nutrition during and after pregnancy.

Perinatal Neuroimmunology: Patterns Of Interference

(12 Hours) Updated neuroimmunology information and how to correlate this information into practice. You'll review normal and abnormal immunology, the current immunological research pertaining to the children and pregnant women and immunology concepts and controversies.

Practical Neurology of the VSC & Advanced Drop Technique

(12 Hours) This session will develop a practical understanding of the potential causes of the Vertebral Subluxation Complex (VSC) and the negative effects it has on the body. The VSC’s proposed aberrant effects on proprioception, nociception and the stress response will be discussed in great detail. The presenter will consult and guide each doctor on how to apply this information to better educate the parents in your practice.

Pregnancy, Birth, and Infancy from the Baby’s Perspective

(8 Hours) In this 8-hour online course: Gain a greater understanding how Birth Imprints affect the physical health, emotional bonding and psychological well-being of the infant and child. Review comprehensively the myriad decisions new parents must make considering the baby's perspective and what resources they are seeking to help create a healthy foundation for their family.

Protecting the Chiropractic Family Practice

(8 Hours) This one-day course was previously titled "Assessing and Reducing Risk in the Chiropractic Family Practice": Today’s family chiropractor is exposed to a unique set of risks in the day-to-day operations of the business of chiropractic healthcare and within the clinical setting of patient evaluation and care. In this class, we will explore the risk associated with current trends in chiropractic education, scope of practice, standard of care, documentation, patient communication and third party pay systems. Expect to delve into critical thinking relative to differential diagnosis and patient safety.

Research: Evidence-Informed Practice

(12 Hours) This online course provides an overview of current published research: understanding the various types of research and essentials of the case history. Application of current research and its relevance to case management in the family practice. Participants will be introduced to the methodology of preparing a case study for publication.

Techniques: Thompson and Logan with Infant Exam

(12 Hours) Using lecture, dramatic audiovisual, live demonstration and hands-on mentoring, Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hogan share the tools that they use daily with children in their salutogenic practice. There are three main subjects: Thompson technique, Logan technique, and Infant examination. The technique portions of the module teach a solid understanding of the neurological analysis, biomechanics, indications, procedures, set-ups, and corrections. Attendees will practice their skills with mentoring during hands-on practice. Modifications and special considerations for the pediatric and pregnant populations are emphasized. The infant examination is taught test-by-test, demonstrated with students following along and live videos to practice along with. This examination is what all infants’ initial visits and re-evaluations should look like. The examination includes primitive reflexes, tonal testing, critical observations, and spinal biomechanics. This neurological and functional exam evaluates age-appropriate health throughout their development.

The Essentials of Chiropractic: Adjusting the Infant and Child

(8 Hours) This one-day/8-hour introduction to pediatric adjusting provides an overview of the spinal assessment and adjusting techniques for infants and children. Demonstration of various chiropractic exam techniques and their specific, low force application in the infant and child.

The Essentials of Chiropractic: Education in the Perinatal Period

(4 Hours) This one-day/4-hour class will introduce innovative and advanced approaches in teaching parents about chiropractic care in the perinatal practice. All too often chiropractors unknowingly step out of their practice parameters in their patient education. Dr. Ian provides an understanding of ethical standards and best practices. Dr. Ian will also discuss the importance of collaboration with numerous health care providers in your community to offer the best possible care for the families in your practice.

The Pediatric Nervous System: Assessment and Techniques for Clinical Practice

(12 Hours) This course was previously titled "Developmental Neurobiology". From infancy throughout childhood, understanding and evaluating the pediatric nervous system is both challenging and rewarding. This module will focus on the important physiological intersections that impact spinal health, quality of life, and the attainment of milestones.
