New ICPA Study Focuses on Sense of Coherence

By

Why Sense of Coherence?

Read Time: 1 min

Salutogenic approaches to health focus on an individual's ability to adapt, which may shape a person's life experiences and how those experiences are perceived. These experiences might include changes in physical or mental health status. Sense of coherence (SOC) is a central concept within the idea of salutogenesis; it considers comprehensibility, manageability, and meaningfulness of each internal or external experience for an individual.

Stronger SOC has been associated with better quality of life and better health. ICPA believes that health is expressed within a spectrum that is much broader than "good" or "bad" and engaging in chiropractic care is an important salutogenic activity that helps our patients thrive.
