Public Statement from the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA)
Regarding prescription drugs within the scope of chiropractic practice
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association’s mission is to establish and advance the chiropractic family lifestyle. As a leading healthcare profession, chiropractic aims to support the individual’s self-responsibility and innate healing capacity. Our model of care seeks to promote a salutogenic philosophy—one that emphasizes health creation, adaptability, and resilience, rather than the treatment of disease.
In the realm of perinatal and pediatric chiropractic, where nervous system function, neurodevelopment, and adaptability are central, introducing prescription drugs within our scope of practice is incongruent with our focus. The strength of chiropractic lies in our ability to provide care that is distinct—not duplicative—of medical disciplines.
Rather than expanding into pharmaceutical drugs, we believe the future of family chiropractic lies in the continued refinement of our clinical skills, a deeper understanding of health promotion, and the advancement of research that supports our drug-free model of care.
We stand for a profession that remains clearly defined, principled, and rooted in its natural, vitalistic origins—especially for the families and children we serve.
Signed,
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA)
